Episode 17 | Saskia

In this episode, Saskia shares her experience of becoming a mum to her son, Rowan, and the reality of a postpartum season that looked nothing like she had imagined.

She reflects on experiencing the baby blues soon after birth following a postpartum haemorrhage, the grief she felt for her previous life, and the importance of seeking support early through her partner, healthcare professionals and a psychologist. Saskia also talks about raising a spirited little boy with a strong temperament, learning to let go of comparison, and gradually finding the confidence to trust her own intuition as a mother.

We also discuss the identity changes that accompany motherhood, navigating redundancy while on maternity leave, rediscovering purpose, and how honest conversations with other mothers helped her realise she wasn't alone in what she was experiencing.

Saskia also shares the story behind BlumaCoosh, a feeding pillow she is developing after experiencing the physical discomfort that so often comes with feeding and rocking a baby during the postpartum period.
