Episode 29 | Bonus Episode | Tegan from The Parenthood
In this bonus episode, Tegan Gilchrist, a senior director at The Parenthood, discusses the pressures facing modern families and the systemic changes that could better support parents.
Tegan discusses The Parenthood’s advocacy for 12 months of paid parental leave, high-quality and accessible early learning, and family-friendly workplaces, as well as the importance of enabling fathers and partners to be actively involved in caring for their children from the beginning.
Tegan also reflects on the changing nature of the village, the ongoing challenge of balancing work and care as children grow, and why so many parents can feel as though they personally aren’t keeping up when the systems around them were designed for a very different way of living.
It’s a conversation about recognising the pressures parents are carrying, creating systems that better support families, and advocating for a future in which parents have more time, flexibility and support to care for their children and themselves.
