Episode 6 | Julia

In this episode, Julia shares her experience of becoming a mum to her daughter, Cameron.

Julia talks about developing high blood pressure at the end of pregnancy, being induced on her due date, and the way her birth unfolded from there. She reflects on a vaginal birth that included a third-degree tear and postpartum haemorrhage, followed by the added challenge of Cameron needing care for low blood sugar shortly after birth.

Julia speaks honestly about what it was like to leave hospital without her baby, spend long days visiting special care and NICU, and begin feeding in a way that looked very different to what she had expected.

She also shares the emotional adjustment of early motherhood, and the support she received from her partner, midwife, family, maternal mental health, and friends.

This conversation also explores returning to paid work, deciding that it wasn’t the right fit at that stage, and finding joy in slowing down with Cameron through walks, swimming, coffee group, Space, and travelling together.

It is a thoughtful conversation about postpartum support, flexibility, and finding your own rhythm as a mother.
