Episode 8 | Makayla

In this episode, Makayla shares her experience of becoming a mum across three different postpartum seasons.

She begins by reflecting on her first postpartum experience with her son, who was born when she was 21. After a long wait beyond her due date, Makayla describes the joy of meeting him for the first time, followed by the unexpected experience of a postpartum haemorrhage shortly after birth.

She speaks honestly about how difficult that recovery was — physically, emotionally, and mentally — and how hard it felt not being able to care for her baby in the way she had imagined.

Makayla also reflects on the pressure she felt as a young first-time mum, the impact of online advice and expectations, and the anxiety that came with trying to do everything perfectly.

Later in the conversation, Makayla shares her more recent postpartum experiences with her second and third son. She describes how each experience has changed her perspective — helping her lower expectations, trust herself more, and understand that babies do not need to follow one perfect schedule.

This is a thoughtful and honest conversation about the many versions of postpartum, and the confidence that can slowly grow through each season of motherhood.
